If I told you that a few days ago

• I was made to sit in a drafty corner away from all other tables because I came with kids
• the kids’ food came ten minutes before the adult food
• the spaghetti on one of the children’s plates was cold
• two of our side dishes had to go back because they were not what we ordered
• every single plate that was supposed to come to us was offered to another table first
• we got overcharged in the end for the sides we sent back because we never ordered them!

Would you want to go to that restaurant? I don’t think so.

Yes, they did give us the sides we had originally ordered once we reminded them.

Yes, they took the sides off the bill that we didn’t ask for.

But, at no time did we see a manager come by and ask us how the evening was going.

Well, I don’t want to badmouth a company, but you’d be surprised if I told you where that was. It’s very American, and the chain prides itself to always be a fun place to go to.

In the end, I don’t think I will ever set foot in that place again. The night was messed up, the food was one notch up from fast food, and it was expensive. Yeech!

Most obvious benefits:

• The commute is eliminated
• I can wear anything I want
• I can eat whenever I want
• Work hours are whenever I want them to be

Most obvious drawbacks:

• I am always at work
• It is easy to find reasons to procrastinate

As you see, the benefits outweigh the negatives. Both lists could be much longer, but I am still certain the benefits for working from home would rule.

In my situation, I also have to constantly look around for new work, since I am a freelancer. This is kind of fun, to a degree. It is amazing to see just how many things can be done remotely. If all the companies in the USA and the other western countries let their employees work from home, we would be able to cut the amount of traffic related pollution in half.

I don’t believe that employees need to be in a cubicle to get certain things done. As a matter of fact, I think if something can be done from a cubicle, it can most definitely be done from home.

Just imagine the free roads for those who have jobs that you have to go to. Just imagine the millions of happy families where the parents can participate in their children’s school activities. Just imagine how much more productive a worker is when he/she is project driven versus staying in some building because the clock says so.

Here’s to working from home.

I also started watching a DVD about search engine optimization. That was somewhat more accessible in the onset. I now understand what the goal of SEO is. The DVD has three problems. One, the internet and the relevant search engines have evolved since the DVD was made. The other problem, and that is really their fault, is the poor audio quality. There is a part where a man sits at a desk and he introduces the segments. Those parts are well made. The segments have horrible audio. The sound is lower and not as crisp, this makes it harder to understand the content. The third problem is a combo of me not knowing the last thing about HTML, so the pages look like gibberish to me. Worse here is that the screen-shots aren’t rendered clearly, so, unless you know exactly what such a page should look like, there is nothing to be seen.

Well, my  quest for knowledge from the library is not finished. I have a stack of books right here that is two feet high. I’ll be having many more chances of learning new things without taking a class. I know for a fact that there are at least three books in the stack that will help me increase and better some of my skills. I have book about how to get the most out of my Microsoft Office Suite. And I have a beginner book for Python. I’m looking forward to working my way through that.

It is truly a wondrous machine. Do you remember learning about the human’s quest for the perpetuum mobile? What? You haven’t? Look it up. It’s worth your time.

See? I just made you move without using any of my energy. The internet moves all day long. And most likely not out of its own volition. It is being moved by thousands, even millions of people all day long. It never sleeps, it never eats.

But humans create the content, so it doesn’t move by itself. Well, yes, if it were only one human who made all it move, it weren’t a perpetuum mobile. With half the world online, aren’t we more like one gigantic organism, like ants?

Instead of communicating by hormones, we communicate by bits and bytes. Even when I sleep, somebody looks at my facebook stuff, and, maybe, leaves a comment.

I fully stand by those commas above, by the way. Don’t ask me to give you the rules, but I know those commas go there. If you can credibly prove me wrong, you get a cookie.

So, this is like my test blog. It’s the free kind. I haven’t even fully understood all the cool things I can possibly do with this, but I am considering to pay for the upgrade.I’m thinking there are a lot of crummy blogs out there. Maybe I’ll be adding some quality.

Why do I suddenly want a paid blog? Well, I’ve started working from home and it has given me many new things to think about. It seems that it is actually hard to have good consistent content for a blog. I spent my last three weeks writing content for other people’s blogs and websites.

I wrote about

• insurance
• aquaria
• maltitol
• cities
• internet TV
• an assassin
• a newsletter that has yet to get published
• an internet application
• and I’m starting an ebook on seduction tomorrow

So, you see. All these are being used as content. Or, you may call it bait. Bait to lure the search engines to those sites and give the hosts  money. A perpetuum mobile of making money. There are better words for this. But I don’t know them yet. I did order a bunch of books from the library though. I want to learn Python, Java, Joomla, and Drupal. Why? Those promise to be fun to learn.

There! I did it! I wrote a full fledged article for my blog.
